Some thoughts on the beauty and punk rock darkness of Lisbon, Portugal

Portugal is a city of Sailors and Thieves.
It has tiled everything and a bad ass attitude towards life. They rock and roll, steal and barter, fish and eat. They are some of the nicest and sketchiest people I have met in my travels.

The Architecture and overall style of the city is warm and inviting, new school and gothic. It seems like generations of seafaring people brought back styles from India, South America and Africa.

Every street you walk down there is an interesting door or fresco or tiled wall. It is a stunning place filled with surprise.

The music/night life scene is schizophrenic and nostalgic. Walking down one block you can here Elvis, mixing at high volumes with Daft Punk, Chet Atkins laying a blanket of 60's warm guitar for Deep house and Fado/ Bossa Nova bands all bouncing together down the tiny tiled and packed streets of the bustling Barrio Alto, where the night people go for hole in the wall bars and restaurants. The thieves rob the unsuspecting and the locals laugh it all away.

You will be offered drugs in every square, it is best to travel in groups as these offers can quickly escalate to demands.

You should enjoy the beers of Lisbon, Sagres and Super Bock which are both light and refreshing or you can get a giant Caipirinha, which is a sugary blend of rum and chipped ice.

Santa Justa Elevator with Motorist and reflected ladies
The food is incredible and relatively cheap. They value their ham like their Spanish neighbors and really do it well for breakfast and lunch. But the seafood is what you want here. The best dish I have had in years is called:

Bacalhau com Natas:

Summer Street Team Project

This was a Notecard/Mustache Sticker handout that I created to hand out at a Portland ME Music festival. The Font and Style are tied in with the overall design of the "Gentlemen of the Road" event on Portland's Eastern Promenade.
